Christmas Balls, Indeed!
"Jasmine?" Draco asked, barely able to contain his laughter. "This is a lovely drawing. Would you care to tell me about it?"
"Oh, yes!" the little girl gushed. "That's the ghost of Christmas future."
Draco arched a fine brow in question. "The ghost of Christmas future looks suspiciously like Harry Potter, does he not?"
The little girl giggled. "Of course he does, Mr Malfoy. That's because Mr Potter is the ghost of Christmas future. Everyone knows that!"
Draco smiled and patted the little girl before crossing the room to where Harry had been watching him.
"Harry, are you sure Jasmine's not related to that Lovegood girl? There's an uncanny resemblance, you know."
Harry laughed and let his gaze move to where the little girl was still drawing furiously. "She does seem to operate in a dimension all her own, doesn't she? The Healer said it was her way of dealing with stress. She was only four when her parents were tortured and killed right in front of her."
Draco turned away. He hated being reminded of the atrocities Voldemort had committed - that he might have committed had Harry not sent the man to hell where he belonged.
"Draco," Harry moved in behind him and wrapped his arms around his lover's waist. "Draco, you didn't do it. You're not responsible for what Voldemort did."
"I know, I just... I don't know how I could have—"
"You believed your parents and they believed a lie. It's that simple. He's never hurting Jasmine, or you, again. I promise."
Draco nodded, as Jasmine squeaked and ran toward them. "Mr Malfoy, Mr Malfoy, this one's for you!"
"Jasmine, slow down," Harry barked, using his best schoolmaster voice.
The little girl paused and then giggled. Draco couldn't help but chuckle too. Harry's best schoolmaster voice was about as authoritative as a kitten. The man loved these kids too much, and it showed. Surprisingly, Draco was rather smitten with most of them as well.
"What do you have for me Jasmine?"
She stood as tall as she could before handing Draco the picture she had drawn. He had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing this time. His eyes watered despite his best effort to stop them.
Harry scowled at him for his lack of encouragement to the child. "Mr Malfoy loves it so much he's speechless. Isn't that right, Draco?" The words were followed by a sharp nudge in the ribs.
Draco smiled down at the grinning child. "It's lovely, Jasmine, but may I ask what these are?"
Once again, she looked at him as if he were an idiot. "They're Christmas balls, of course!"
Draco nodded and looked up, his eyes still sparkling with restrained laughter. He held the picture so Harry could see. It was another drawing of Harry, only this time his ghostly white robe had a belt with two large, festively coloured balls hanging down low from the buckle. Harry folded his lips inward to try to contain his laughter as his eyes, too, began to water.
Draco looked down at the small child who was grinning widely, then back over to his lover. "Christmas balls, indeed," he said with a smirk.
